October 2008

**October 10-12 (Fri-Sun, Columbus Day Weekend) Watkins Glen, New YorkWesties at Watkins 2008. This is the seventh annual LiMBO family campout. Discover the beauty of the Watkins Glen Gorge and beautiful surrounding Finger Lakes Region of New York.  Activities for all including hiking, caravanning, wine tasting, and campfire festivities. Campout is at Watkins Glen State Park, easily accessible from highway 14.  Any VW van models (not just Westfalias) are welcome to come and participate in this event. Since it's the end of the season, Joel has been able to reserve the Onondaga Valley Loop for the VW crowd. Therefore, NO ONLINE RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. Drive up to the ranger kiosk by the campgrounds and claim the selected site.  We will have a weekend rate (TBD ~$20?) with an additional walkup fee of $2. We will be allowed to double up on all sites. There are 49 sites available in this loop. Joel plans to camp in site 170, and plans to make sites 168-187 the communal area. This area does have nice clean bathrooms with warm showers and easy access to the gorge trail. THERE IS NO ELECTRICITY AVAILABLE at the sites in this loop. Go to the Mohawk Village Loop if you need to plug in. (You will need to make reservations on-line for this loop.)  You can always join us for the evening festivities. There will be "breakfast burritos" Saturday morning, and a pot luck supper and door prizes on Saturday night. The field house next to the baseball field has been reserved for that event. It has electricity, a fireplace, and picnic tables. On Sunday, we will drive our vans on the Watkins Glen International Race Course. Track access will be around $ US 15 per vehicle. Pet owner information:  DO NOT leave dogs unattended anywhere in the park. No dogs allowed on the inner Gorge Trail but OK on the rim trails. Pet owners must show current rabies certificate (for their pet.) For directions or more details and information on the campout, contact Joel B.Cort of the Empire State VW Camping Club at jcort@rochester.rr.com or (585)-377-4161
