Local campsites?
« on: May 12, 2009, 12:04:07 PM »
Would like to take the 77 out this weekend, keep the budget low and keep occupied. Ive obviously done the Indian Island campout, are there any other local campgrounds like that?

Mike, In Suffolk ,I think the best camp ground is Cedar point.  It's out in East Hampton, on the Peconic bay  side.  Its by the water and this time of the year it wont be crowded......yet.   The other options are :
Indian Island in Riverhead
Southhaven park........a lot of white trash camp there
Smithpoint Beach........Nice if you like to camp in parking lot by the ocean with Greyhound bus campers next to you.
Cathedral pines  in Yapank
Wild wood in Wading River
A private campground in Greenport
Happy camping.

there is also hecksher- last year it was not open- don't know if it is now.  We've never camped there.

The private campground in greenport is run by the "fun police" so I'd be hesitant to go there.  you have to pay for a two day weekend- even if you go only for one day.

wildwood has a lot to be desired too, from what I am told.

we can talk more on wed.
