Auto transmission cooler
« on: August 30, 2007, 03:07:52 PM »
Friends;

We are the new owners of a 91 Westfalia 104,000 miles with an automatic transmission, in my online research the GOWesty site says that you should replace these every 10 years reguardless of performance.
Loss of one they said can lead to transmission and or engine failure.
she runs and shifts beautiful and has been serviced regularly by The
VW dealer she was purchased from new. should we be worried?

Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks for your replies

I had my auto Trans fail on my 88 this spring from unrelated issues. The rebuilt tranny form GoWesty had a new cooler. I must admit my old cooler was pretty corroded. Replace it as a preventative measure? It depends on your risk tolerance, and how deep your pockets are. Are you a person that replaces all the hoses as a preventative measure? I am guessing most people would take the risk, but it sounds like a good idea if you are in this for the long haul.
