West River Westies 2021

Dear West River Westies Community,

Time to start dreaming and planning for summer!

Bald Mountain Campground plans to host West River Westies July 9, 10, and 11, 2021.  The only possible hitch  would be if Vermont guidelines change and we are restricted from gathering.

This annual VW bus community gathering is the favorite, and beloved event by many all over the east coast and beyond. Gathering at Bald Mountain Campground in Townshend, VT has been the summer highlight for many in our community and we are incredibly happy to be planning it again.

We anticipate  that many people will have been able to receive vaccines by this time.

The campground may not have open bathrooms and showers, depending on conditions.  If this is the case, extra porta-potties will be available.

So, consider bringing your portable sun shower.  Then again the river is near by.

We will stay in touch with the folks at Bald Mountain Campground.  As there are updates we will post by email and in the Facebook group.

We will plan some of the usual activities such as the raffle of VW items, but the pot luck is likely to be different due to COVID considerations.

More information and details will be sent as they come in and as we get closer to the event.
We are so looking forward to gathering with old and new VW bus friends.

Please share this update with those that would like to join us

Folks can email me directly to be put on list to receive email updates.

Your hosts and support  people are looking forward to seeing you soon at West River Westies!

We have some great news to share:

Sometimes bathroom news is very exciting.  This is one of those times.

Bald Mountain Campground is opening up the two bathrooms with showers just for our event.  They have been closed due to COVID concerns.  This means the convenience of the showers and sinks will be available as usual.

Two special requests from the campground owners concerning the bathrooms:
There are two bathroom buildings and they clean them regularly.   When one is being cleaned please do not enter and use the facility around the person cleaning.  Please wait until cleaning is done OR use the other bathroom. There will always be an open facility.

Second request is to use the porta-potty whenever possible as we are a large group and this helps keep the facilities functioning well and available for those that need the flush toilets.

So a big thank you to Bald Mountain Campground for opening the facilities just  for us.

Arrival: Please remember to stop in at the office to register for the nights you are staying.  If for some reason they are not there please return to register later.  They are usually there but sometimes are out doing facility care.

Bathrooms will be available prior to the usual Friday start so those of us that plan to arrive early will be able to use the facilities. Participants that come early, and stay longer, can use the group site and have the group rate.

The West River Westies welcome tent and sign in area will be set up by Friday morning or earlier. Please stop in to sign in and get your welcome packet, nice free items, and event information.

More good news:
This year the entire group areas are only being used by the West River Westies event.  In recent past years we were a bit closer than usual due to the Fifth Wheel group.  But, we have the full space to enjoy.

Below I’m answering some commonly asked questions I missed in the previous update

Can I bring my dog?
Yes, We are so lucky that our pets are welcome to camp with us.  However, If you have a dog that is aggressive don’t bring it.  Dogs are to be kept on leash or in your van area.  This is important as we need to keep our dogs from engaging with the other campers.

Raffle items:

Please Please bring your VW Bus, VW related, and camping related items to donate to the raffle. The participants make the raffle so extra special.

This year we have some significant sponsors for the event who have donated large items for the raffle. There will be some incredibly nice  items from Busware, Dennis VW Service, Greenvest, Go Westy, Vanagain, and Van Alert.  Please be sure to thank them and support them! Proceeds will again be donated to Grace Cottage Hospital.

COVID thoughts:

We strongly encourage all participants to be vaccinated.  We also know that VW bus folks are very respectful of each other so please be thoughtful about your health and others’.  Our activities are mainly outside and have room to spread out.  If not vaccinated please have a mask available for any close encounters.
Also, we appreciate that folks can choose to wear masks for any reason and that is a good thing.  And there are certainly some creative VW bus masks out there.
Those that are vaccinated are not required to wear masks, but it is recommended in densely populated spaces.

Canadian visitors:
We are sad that the border is still closed.  We have received many emails from our northern friends wishing they could attend.  So keep them in your thoughts and let’s look forward to welcoming them back next year.
