VW stuff Wanted / Stock exhaust wanted
« on: May 28, 2011, 01:52:09 AM »
Looks like the bus is running good again. Going to give it a healthy run around the area tomorrow and make sure we really got it this time.

Through all my recent woes, Ive come to think its time to get rid of this sull 4-tip wannabe monza crapo exhausto that Ive got. Does anyone have a stock exaust set up for a FI 77 bay?

Hoping to find somthing in good, useable, presentable condition. If you got somthing, drop a line back or email me

VW stuff Wanted / My 1977 2.0 FI type 4 bus needs a new ECU!
« on: April 04, 2011, 08:44:15 AM »
I need a new computer for my bus, part numbers as follows, call or email with anything you have. Been having some weak idle and 'missing' issues at high speed, already replaced the aux air regulator, and all the injector seals. Found a few late bus computers on The Samba but part numbers dont all match up, not sure if theyre all too imerpative or if a ECU from a 78 might work?

VW stuff Wanted / Bus bumper overriders
« on: January 02, 2011, 02:02:15 AM »
Looking for a set of bumper guards for by 1977 Bus. The kind that fit over the bumper, and have the notch for the impact strip. (Which I also could use as I now just have generic black rubber trim there) if you think you have a useable set, drop me a line by email, phone or text! Thanks! Mike

VW stuff Wanted / Tach on the fritz
« on: October 30, 2010, 07:27:38 PM »
The VDO tach in my 77 bay had some internal failure. Not really sure what occured, but its grounding out and somehow was causing a short from the wire to the coil.

Im looking for a good used tach, or a clock for a late bay dash pod. If you have one youd be interested in selling drop me a line or post up and Ill reply

VW stuff Wanted / Need a trans for a 77 2.0 FI baywindow
« on: September 04, 2010, 01:00:54 PM »
You've seen the bus, my 77 Sage has some shifting issues to and from 2nd, the other gears are all 'moving around' making the shifter very predicatble. Started with the small stuff, shift rod and bushings all are done. Now have to rule out the big stuff.

If youve got somthing, for a fair price, drop a line, or call, 516 eight five two eight 69 eight

VW stuff Wanted / Looking for an awning or sidetent
« on: May 31, 2010, 10:59:40 PM »
Sold off my Fiama f45i because it was just too heavy for the raingutters of the bus. Go Westy's brackets are poorly designed and were causing damage.

That being said, Id like to find a shady boy or maybe a similar Dometic or Catalina case awning if anyone has somthing in reasonably good shape that they'd like to part ways with. Im felxible on cost but not looking to pay new retail price (unless it comes down to me actually buying new)

drop a line if you have anything!

Mike

Bay window concerns / Mildew Woes...
« on: May 31, 2009, 09:32:26 PM »
About two weeks ago in a haste to get back to some festivities after the holiday weekend I (ugh I cant believe Im saying this) retracted my buses awning while it was wet...

(As you all smack your faces at the rookie and the ever so dumb move)

You already guessed that today as I deployed the 10X10 awning, it was covered in mildew. I used some simple green to spot treat, and gave it a nice scrubbing with a pole brush, followed with a nice rinse, towel dried and allowed to really dry out in the sun. But Im worried that these spots will now be more prone to becoming infected with the green invader. Is there somthing out there I can do to keep the mildew from returning or to seal the vinyl so it doesnt do this again?

Where do you like to go Camping? / My Holiday Weekend (in the 77!)
« on: May 25, 2009, 11:07:59 PM »
So this weekend I actually had my first chance to spend some real time out with the bus. Every year, I work a local soccer tournament that hires out for per-diem EMT's and while the usual hang out is on the field under an E-Z-up, the Westy proved a much more popular, and comfortable alternative. I was able to pull the bus right up onto the field at a local high school. We were one, of 6 sites participating in the tournament and with 23 fields, and 217 individual soccer teams participating there was plenty of people stopping in to say hi and tell thier own renditions of the "I had this same van when..." story. Myself and some friends had the chance to really hang out and enjoy the great weather, I poped the top, and during the day had the screen windows all open, the awning was out and the jalousies were cranked full open. The inverters were running all day, and the additional deep-cycle battery really came in handy! It was running my Bose stereo from Saturday 7am-8pm right through to Sunday 7am-8pm on 110V with no power interupption! We had a blast. After the tournament ended some friends from the Ambulance corps had a BBQ and baseball game on an adjacent fieild, again the bus was the center of attention and really MADE the party what it was... Heres some pics!

Where do you like to go Camping? / Local campsites?

Bay window concerns / awning
« on: May 10, 2009, 01:15:25 PM »
I just mounted a Fiamma 45i 10 foot awning on my 77... But the instructions were shoddy at best. Has anyone done this before? I bought the bay window brackets from GoWesty, (which look to me like a vanagon bracket they just notched for the slider) I got them mounted onto the bus, and at that noted that they dont really conform tot he shape of the rounder bus rain gutters... at that they kinda left a mark on the bus... anyways then I hung the awning caseon the brackets and (like the instrictions said) drilled a hole through the case and bracket to place a small bolt in place. I tightended it down then thats it...? Anyone else do this before? Also, where are the best places to put the brackets on the bus? I have one on the b pillar, just forward of the slider, and one on the d pillar, between the back of the window and the air intake.

I didnt mount the brackets on the side of the bus for the feet, because I just dont think that they work the way theyre intended... Are they worth using?

Lastly, the awning came with three plastic "end caps" where do these darn things go?
