« on: April 05, 2011, 07:26:34 PM »
A few months ago, I removed mine from an '86 camper.; It's a big waist of space and not worth having, at least for me.

Vanagon concerns / has anyone researched
« on: March 07, 2011, 09:13:45 PM »
With out a doubt, Webcam has the best lifters.  B. Bob and I agreed with this, They are expected to be used with their 'own' cams, [due to proper hardness].   Oil pressure must be be right; I have run them at 5K RPM at length, put them in 'storage' for a long time, and they work well.

My assistant forgot to load my camera.  There were a few who took pics, I'll get them.  There was a fair share of excitement, also.   I'll make up a report and post.

VW stuff Wanted / need a trans
« on: October 06, 2010, 09:25:09 AM »
Mike, Whenever there is a pop-out, it is the trans, [Gears, syncros]  It's good to replace, or rebuild, as these are hard to get 'good used' as the demand for use in sand rails is high.  Keep the oil clean and linkage intact and the new one will last.

Bay window concerns / 79 Bus
« on: September 21, 2010, 08:28:34 PM »
Vacume is the key to the Air Flow Control systems, ['75-'82.]   Look for larger leaks, like these, as they were made to bediagnosed  with basic tools.   I find them to be quite relialable.

Bay window concerns / sputtering
« on: September 21, 2010, 09:48:23 AM »
Check the mechanacial advance, in distributor.  They must be in top shape.  [and do more than the vacume unit] Time the motor on spec, perhaps advance 2 to 3 degrees.

VW stuff Wanted / need a trans
« on: September 06, 2010, 09:23:19 PM »
Mike, Make sure the likkage is OK to the trans.  The 'U' joint before the trans can wear, and the set screw can come out, or become loose.   Lube everything.  If all is OK, the problem is almost certainly in the 'nose' of the trans, comes off easilly,  and the shift selector rod can wear.  Replace it, done.   I have never seen this problem requiring replacement, as they are getting harder to find.   The demand is high, as they are used in sand rails everywhere.

Sometimes I think these mice know VW's more than people-well, they at least know where to live.   I have a cat around my shop, and there are far fewer around.
