gonna stab in the dark here.
when you turn the key, the starter turns the engine, creating vacuum, that vacuum pulls air in through the afm flap door into the throttle body.the fuel pump is operated by the afm when the flap door is pulled open.
try this. take off air filter part to afm, get pencil and prop open flap door. go turn key to on position ( NOT START)
then go listen of feel for the fuel pump whirring, if it is, then check/adjust/lubricate your throttle cable, and linkage at the throttle body

I know this has its place on those other sites, so I wanted to start one since, I ,like most get excited when I see a bus..!JOE
so yes I saw a bus this morning.
white early bay ( or lowlight) missing the rear luggage carrier, was at the rest stop on 495 near exit 30 something.
day before yessaday, I saw a painted up bay on rt2 being towed, had eyes painted on the windshield!
2 weeks ago I saw a v-gon double cab on rt2 near Sterling Ma. was camoflauge and was also being towed..looked like they were going to the Irving gas station off exit 26.
anyone???

HAHA!! glad you went, I know alot of people would not have done it just cuzza the gay factor.
Its good to have the Bus bring in some money for once instead of it taking it all.

As some of you know, I work in entertainment. So I am passing this on for a friend.
This weekend on saturday is the Boston Gay Pride Parade, It is their 40th Annual
so they are looking for a vw bus to take part in the parade, they will pay you 200-300 dollars, I belive the parade starts at noon,they want to hang a banner on the side of the bus and have a couple of drag queens in 70's garb ride along with you.
I would do it. but I have a new baby at home ( 3 weeks old now!!)

prolly have to drop the engine, and while its out.....
um usually at my house, when i turn on a light switch and the light doesnt come on, i get a new bulb. the fast blinker is a tell tale sign..and the dark is too.

hey it sounds like the same issues I had, I recently just redid the top FI portion, all the hoses and boots and injector 0-rings, and when I started it up, the idle was way high!!! so I had to cut it back like 4 whole turns, also when I rechecked the timing it was at 12°BTDC, which was 7.5 with the vac leaks..so I static timed it back... I think you have some vacume leaks in there..prolly in the intakes or injector seals..Joe
