I am getting closer to making the journey West to see Yellowstone and other National parks. Can anyone fill be in on Bears, Food Storage, and Grey Water? I know there are restrictions on how food is handled in areas with Bear. Tenting can require keeping food in special containers outside of the tent. I also have heard you need grey water containment other than an open bucket. I would appreciate personal info from Westy campers on these subjects. The soft sides of the pop up give me concern. I really would like to be able to use my campers fridge, and kitchen. I presently do not have grey water storage other than a bucket. Thanks for your input! Guy

I recently had my drivers overhead cabin light strip my battery in my 88 Westy, and slightly melt the plastic lens. For some time, I have been wanting more efficient lighting to replace the stock interior lights. I have added two LED bar- strip lights on either side of the cabin lamp over the stove. They work well. but, it still left a lamp over the stove that can serve as an electric heater, as it pulls so much current. This week I replaced the three Festoon bulbs in the cabin lamp over the stove with high output LED substitutes. Wow, they are great! At one watt each, they draw only a fraction of the originals, and give no heat. The light is typical LED cool white, and very bright. I got them at LEDLight.com
Part number 38435 Try them, you will not be disappointed.
Next, I am picking out a smaller unit for the drivers lamp.

I just read Rick's recipe for New England Clam Chowder. It looks Delicious! I have a renewed desire to go to the Cape just to get Quahogs! Thanks for Rick sharing, and Andrea for doing a great job with the Transporter.

Everyone should thank Andrea her efforts publishing LIMBO LETTERS. She has been able to pull together lots of interesting and fun articles for our enjoyment. I was just recommended to go to Cobscook Bay State Park in Maine. It sounded very nice with waterside camping, and it is not far from Acadia National Park. Has anyone been there? I would love to hear more first hand input.

I know VW asks for 91 octane gas for my 88. With fuel prices rising, and high octane gas being a premium, I feel the a temptation to try 89 octane fuel. I am aware if the octane is too low, pre-ignition can do harm. My question is how close are the theory and practice of this octane requirement? Are there folks out there doing this without issues? If so, did they retard the spark or take other measures to make things happy? My gut says be careful, my wallet says this gas is too expensive! Thanks for any feedback. It is always fun hearing other peoples views. Looking forward to some LIMBO events this summer.

Our 88 westy sits all by it's self, covered with a thin veil of snow. A long January thaw has brought it out of the deep covering that made spring seem so far away. Enthused by the early spring like weather, I visited her to deliver 2 mouse traps as insurance against the rodents. So far, no victims which is good news. Last season started with a new tranny, and ended with new front brakes. This next season should be a treat. As we all know however, the Westy gods have have to a tendency for surprises. Not all pleasant. In the mean time, we wait for spring, and dream about cruising to a new adventure. We look forward to seeing all our Limbo friends.

When I first joined LIMBO, I received a copy of what I believe was the TTT. It had listings of members who were willing to share a spot to camp, assist, help with mechanicals, or even just visit. I thought it was a great idea. I would like a fresh copy including new members on a yearly basis, or possibly web access to an updated listing. I can only imagine the list has changed in three years. I have not been able to figure out how to check my own listing to make sure it reflects a current commitment I am able to sign up for. This club is wonderful, and I would like to see this extension of friendship better facilitated.

Today, I shifted my 88 Westy's automatic transmission into neutral while going down hill doing around 40 mph. I was hoping to reduce the noise of the drive train to listen for a squeak that I was hearing. I shifted back into drive while doing around 30 mph, and it did not engage. but made a unhappy noise. When I stopped, and then drove away, it would no longer shift from first gear. I would appreciate input on possible repairs, and or sources for a replacement transmission if I end up needing one. My 88 westy has slow blinking turn signals. I think I may have replaced the bulbs all at once last summer with 1156, and or 1157 lamps. I think these lamps were not exact replacements. Could this be the problem? Anyone out there have experience with this one?
