Vanagon concerns / WANTED: 14: spare for Vanagon
« on: March 11, 2013, 09:48:40 PM »
I believe my Continental spare is original - yikes.  It does not even have a date code.
Looking for a 14", proper load rating tire for Vanagon.  I'm in MA/RI border on the coast.  Might be able to pickup at Tri-State Busses, certainly at West River Westies.  Maybe someone has a take off.

I'll be leaving from Costal MA/RI border.  Usually I would be looking for hiking, but I cant hike, except flat ground  right now due to knee.

A Samba ad (not mine) states.  Seems right, I had both a Dasher and Scirocco.

This Bosch condenser part #1 237 330 310 (new # 02 100) fits Jetta 1980, Rabbit 76-80, Dasher 76-80, and Scirocco 76-79.

He asking $10 - all I'm asking is actual shipping - or pick up in MA/RI coastal border.  Can bring to Transporterfest.

OSJL is right near my work - maybe I'll venture there at lunch time. :)
I'm still partial to truck tube - if only they hadn't gone tubeless 20 years ago.  Inconsiderate truckers...or tire manufacturers.

Modifications and Alterations / :?: Westy Seat Bulkhead
« on: November 25, 2009, 09:17:25 PM »
Has anyone replace their seat seat bulkhead on a Vanagon (or bus)

I'k thinking of replacing my Westfalia Weekender plastic one with a wooden one with cut-outs for speakers.  Perhaps a (thin) magazine rack on the front, maybe LED floor lights.  Perhaps cubby holes for various items, or a cut -out area to keep books.   Any ideas

Vanagon concerns / Heater fan (Blower)
« on: November 25, 2009, 09:12:26 PM »
My fan cuts out after a little while (minutes) of running.  Does not seem to matter what speed, but if you change speeds, it may run a bit longer.

I have learned that there is a resistor pack that that controls current to the fan to control speed, but high speed is supposedly "straight through"  with no added resistance.  Any ides, switch itself?

I have to pull the dash to inspect, likely replace the heater core, so I'd like to solve this as the same time,

Van is an 86 - no AC.

Event/Show/Campout news and reviews / Pre-Transporterfest Camp-out-2009
« on: October 13, 2009, 10:10:15 PM »
The free pre-transporterfest camp-out at the Ward Estate was a good time with a good showing - there was something like 14 vans, well 17 if you count all of Dale's vans!  2 of Dale's van were used as sleeping quarters for others.

3 bays, 1 split, the rest were Vanagons and John Jordan;s 62 Herbie Beetle was there for a visit.  Community Chili was brought by a couple with a bay with 2 JAck Russell Terriers  (forget your names) and Dale had bratwurst for all.

Great campfire, which a few us left for a break for Xtreme Bowling. being shuttled by Dale's daughter in her Subaru Forrester.   We suggested that she keep the hood shut and locked less she find some wheezing 1.9 water boxer installed in place of the 2.5L.

Balloon launch the next morning followed by my first exposure to Breakfast Burritos , courtesy of Joel and the Empire crew - thanks!  Also thanks to Joel for his contribution to firewood.

Then a Caravan to Transporterfest, which Dale in his green bug and I, in my Vanagon followed a short while before splitting off for breakfast and home, respectively.

Thanks to Dale for the site, food, firewood  and introduction to Xtreme Bowling!

Not that I ever make any, but anyone know any dates for 2009 events.  I guess I'm thinking places mainly New England, but south the PA / MD or west to NY OK.

I figure if I plan way ahead, maybe I'll make one.
