PLEASE NOTE!  We have the group site from THURSDAY JULY 5th UNTIL SUNDAY JULY 8th!  Please come for one night or all 3 nights if you can!  No reservations required.  When you arrive at the park, do not stop of the main office, but continue through the ranger booth.  Let them know you are camping in the Group Camping area and they will let you pass through.  Continue to the group area which is on the right.  We have group sites A and C.  Water spigot available in the group area.  No electric.  Flush toilets/shower just off our sites.  (showers have pull cords....so bring a rope if you want to cheat it!)  SORRY...NO PETS ARE ALLOWED IN THE CAMPGROUND.  No alchohol permitted in the park, so be discreet.  Rangers will make surprise stops on foot in our camp, so always be on alert.  Saturday night pot luck dinner will be under the pavillion just off of the group area.  Kitchen will be available for our use.  There are also charcoal grills up there we can use.  I do have something up my sleeve for Sat night under the pavillion, but am waiting for it to show up in the mail before I officially announce.  I will also have some kids activities planned for Friday afternoon.  I am also planning a kids pinata for Saturday night after dinner.  Last year, Shelli Holland, owner of Horizons in Jim Thorpe (please stop by her shop in town for your favorite hippy swag!) not only snuck away to camp with us, she also led hula hoop sessions on the lake beach Thursday evening and Saturday evening.  I do believe we will be doing that again, so bring a hoop if you have one or borrow one from Shelli!  Please feel free to contact me at https://www.facebook.com/#!/events/140214729426558/

VW stuff Available / Travel Cups for sale.
« on: February 29, 2012, 09:18:01 PM »
I made some awesome eco-travel cups to sell to raise some money to help fund expenses for our campout in Jim Thorpe, PA this summer.  The cups are biodegradable plastic (will degrade within 5 yrs in a landfill), double walled for insulation.  Snap on sipper lid.  [/img]https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2825764236311&set=o.140214729426558&type=1&ref=nf[img]  2 colors available:  Silver w/black logo, Red w/silver logo.  Price is $6 each, $5 each if you buy more than one.  I will have them at all campouts we attend until they sell out.  I am willing to ship and have afew boxes that will fit 4 cups.  Price for 4 cups shipped is $28.  Please email us at missnken@dejazzd.com if you are interested and let us know qty and color you'd like.  I can figure out shipping for other quatities as well.  If you are coming to Jim Thorpe or another PA campout and would like me to hold you some cups, please email so I can put them aside for you.  This is the high class alternative to a red cup!  Get 'em while they are hot!  Ken and I thank you for your support of our campout!  -Malissa  (Vanagon logo w/ "HOME IS WHERE YOU PARK IT")

Just saw this today, VW plugged it on Facebook.  They are in the last few days of fundraising to get this movie finished.  It looks even better than the other one coming out.  Focuses on the culture that we all know and love.  Check it out!  (and yes, we backed both of them!)

Not sure who to thank, but LOTS OF THANKS to LIMBO and Jon Kleckner for arranging the donation towards our pavillion rental Friday at Mauch Chunk!  Due to timing, we were unable to secure the rental for Saturday, but I have already reserved for next year on Saturday, so we should be good going forward!  It was a great event and hope to see more folks next year.  I will try to post some pics in the coming days.

Technical Concerns / pop top conversion
« on: June 20, 2010, 11:47:18 PM »
My husband put a pop top on our 1989 Carat afew years ago.  There was a quickie synopsis in the Transporter we wrote maybe last fall or so?  I had it documented pretty good with pics on a FMBC thread, but the webite has been down.  If you have specific questions, please PM us!

Where do you like to go Camping? /
« on: March 17, 2010, 09:24:28 AM »
Looks like the weather will be great this weekend!  We are looking forward to getting out!  The Delaware River level is pretty high so we aren't sure if we'll be able to camp down there on Sat, in which case, we'd be at Tohickon Valley Park both nights.

Link above for all the details.  Just wanted to add this in case anyone is interested....I believe it's been submitted for the calendar, but hasn't been added  yet.  Pics on the above thread from the November release.  Bring all you need to survive for the weekend.  There are no facilities (or restrooms) at our camp spot on the Delaware.

Location is quaint area of Bucks County along the Delaware River.  Town is Point Pleasant (Pipersville area).  Lots to do nearby including New Hope, Rice's Market, and of course, watch the kayaking action.  Details on exact location, etc are in the thread above.  Check it out!

The link below will take you to the thread on FMBC with all the info.  Everyone is invited and welcome.  Bring everything you need to survive for the weekend:  potty, firewood, water, heater, extra warm clothes and sleeping bags!  Friday night camping at Tohickon Valley Park's Deer Wood Campground, Saturday night on Delaware Riverbed at parking area for RIVER COUNTRY tubing.

For those who don't get on Full Moon, there is a thread over there about this campout as well.  Please check out.  Someone suggested a beer tasting....bring some to share in the spirit of the season.  There is a list of who is bringing what on the thread....feel free to join in the fun.  Also reminder of pot luck dinner Sat night featuring Saurbratten ala Dave and Kim and a Sun am breakfast potluck featuring Pumpkin Pancakes ala Dave and Kim.  Keeping fingers crossed for a warm and dry weekend!  Kenny and I should be there around check in time on Friday or sometime in afternoon.   From the feedback I've been getting, we are in for a nice size crowd!  Pack in tight when you arrive so we can accommodate everyone!  Please tell the office you will be at SITE #78.  ((They probably will not have a clue if you mention the VW GROUP...although I will remind them when we check in!))  Safe travels and see everyone there!

Where do you like to go Camping? / I CHANGED THE SITE to #78
« on: September 16, 2009, 04:27:07 PM »
Hey everyone....Susan King went up to Blue Rocks this week and scoped out the sites.....she said site 78 is better (where we were 2 years ago) because there is access from 3 sides of the site, less trees and is flatter.  I called and switched us to site 78.  Sue and afew others are getting single sites.  Feel free to do what you want, but we will have room for at least 15 buses on site 78.  If you prefer to get a single site...you'd better call soon to reserve as they are getting full.

Where do you like to go Camping? / Firewood
« on: September 13, 2009, 10:01:05 PM »
There is a great place to get wood on the way into the campground from rte 78.  You can't miss it and it's about $10 for a nice size bin.  It'll be on the left when you turn left off of Rte 143.  We live locally to the campground and will be bringing some from home as well.

Nothing to be confused about.  The original hosts of this event were not going to continue it this year.  Andrea and myself decided to reserve a spot at the same campground for those who still want to come.  Everyone is invited to join us.

Dogs are allowed at Blue Rocks.  Not sure how many to expect....usually there is about 12-15 buses, but last year I think they got afew more than that.  We should have no problem with the 12-15 (our site fits '10' tents).....this was the biggest they had available when I called them yesterday.  Plus, most of us are pretty good about cramming in, so if those who arrive first plan to cram, we'll be ok.

As far as kids go....of course you can bring them!  The campground is having trick or treating Sat night (which a bunch of our kids participated in last year) and also their Halloween party.  We will be up on a hill, so biking for the wee ones probably isn't a good idea.  We will be a short, easy walk from the rocks, so you can take the kids down to check out and climb on them.  We'll be a little far from the playground...but you could walk down there if you and kids are motivated!  My 2 will definitely be there (3 and 5) and there will probably be a bunch more.

We are all sad to lose the great Kampers on the Rocks campout this year. Andrea Rasso contacted me today and we decided we would reserve a site for the Oct 23-25th. Here's the info: Site #94 (new this year, but about same size as 2 years ago), reservation is under Malissa Weikel and is #1862. You will need to call to make your reservation and they will require 1 night deposit (credit cards ok). It is $30/night, pit toilets in our area, rustic- showers and flush toilets are available, but be prepared to hike. We will do a pot luck Sat night for dinner.

Campground activities for the weekend:
October 23rd - 25th “Halloween Weekend #4”
Sat. - 5:30 pm Trick or Treating (Meet under outside Pavilion)
7:00 pm Blue Rocks Annual Halloween Party
8:00 pm Costume Judging

Lots to do near by: Joe's U Pull it Auto parts in New Ringold, short drive away; Cabela's; Long Trout Winery in Auburn PA (Hippie themed and so good!) Hiking trails from campground to Pulpit's Rock lookout and can continue on to the Pinnacle lookout--highest point in Berks County and also where AT crosses this section of the state.

If I missed anything, please ask! Hope to see you there!
