Check with Jon and Mike at FAS in Harpswell Maine, if they can't fix it no one can. The shop # is 207 833 0009 tell them Rich sent you. Great guy's they did my Vanagon motor and trans for me. later Rich

thanks Rich! I have another friend who had them put a Jetta engine in his "85 and highly recommended them as well.

Hello all,

I'm new to this list and a second time owner of a VW pop-top, it's been over 20 years since I sold mine, and time to hit the road again, so I'm purchasing an '86 Westy Wolfsberg Weekender. The A/C is shot. From what I'm reading here it sounds like there are some opinions that it's not worth fixing. I plan on spending part of the winter in the southwest and Austin. Would love to hear more on pros/cons of fixing vs. 86-ing. Thanks!!
