I have been toying with the idea of selling my '86 but every time I check out thesamba or e-bay I get depressed thinking about losing her. I'm hoping to find a qualified mechanic in the northern NJ area to take a look at her and give me an independent assessment of how much I'd need to put into her to get her back on the road.
Interior is in fantastic condition. New engine from VW dealer can't have more than 15k miles on it. She stopped starting in 2001 and has been sitting ever since (covered for a good portion of the time). Hoping to find someone to tow the van to and have them give me some prices to see if it's worth putting the money in to make her roadworthy again.
Any suggestions on mechanics / shops to reach out to?

I have a suggestion for you. There is going to be a campout near you this coming Memorial Day weekend in Northern New Jersey. Why not stop by for a day and talk to the folks there, especially the ones with the New jersey license plates. I'm positive you will get some solid leads. Check out this page to get all the details
