: "Stuttering " when accelerating
: rjpeduzzi June 04, 2017, 08:31:50 PM
I have a 82 westy with 2 liter engine. 100K. Has been doing great until recently. I took her to my local VW garage (Beetle Bug in Hudson, MA) for basic service after coming out of 5 months storage. Was running well but there was a gas leak in the engine compartment. Mechanic put in new gas hoses and since then she skips ( feels like stuttering or bucking) whenever I try to accelerate under a load such as going up a small hill, or just accelerating fast. Starts fine, idles smoothly,  and as long as there is no need to accelerate relatively quickly, she runs smoothly. .  I changed plugs with no improvement. Mechanic said that he ran a gas pressure test which was normal.
This has shaken my confidence in this particular garage (he is an older mechanic and deals with lots of beetles and has experience with air cooled but has limited spare parts).
I would appreciate any input into where to go next.  I know of Greggs repair service in Natick which is fairly close (I am in Maynard, MA),  and John's Car Corner in Vermont. (a bit of a haul but I'm willing).  Any other air-cooled specialists nearby?

Did they change the fuel filter when changing the fuel lines?
