: New(?) Vanagon......milage?
: Anonymous April 15, 2006, 11:26:55 PM
Hello out there in Limboland, anybody home? I just bought an '83 Westy Vanagon 1.9 liter and wanted to know if any of you who might have one could tell me what type of milage you get. I could figure it out but alas my speedo is ka-put. Thanks
Peace,
Michael

I have a '84 water cooled. I truly never did a calculation to get miles per gallon, but, the rule of thumb I use is 300 miles per tank of gas.

I believe we are a little under 20 mpg, not bad for a "brick." Oh, and my mechanic, who lives, breathes and dreams Vanagons, strongly suggests not running the tank down too far. He says it is much better to fill up at a quarter tank. And hey, it feels cheaper, too.
