I bought a 1988 Vanagon in 2004 with a new paint job. Not quite two years later and the rust that the paint job hid is now showing in the seams. What is the best thing to do?

I was looking at taking it to a local body shop to see what they say. Should I find one that has done Vanagons before?

Thanks,
Jelane

for seam rust it is hard to stop.the one way to slow it down is having it repaired right in the first place.you can use a produte called POR-15 it one of the best rust preventing on the market. if you raely want to beat the rust is by seperating all the seams treating it all with por-15 than braze/solder all the seams together.just don't get discouraged on it .just do the the old sand .por 15 than filler and paint just like everyone else.

Jelane, You might want to mention the general area you live in and ask here on the forum if anyone knows a good VW body man in your area. It's always best to find someone with a good reputation.

Phil

Try looking for an adult education class at the local trade school, You use ther tools and equipment and the instructor tells yuo what to do. as dirty as the job is it's good to have someone there to show you.
