: Where Do Think Gnomes Are Really Made?
: Red Baron July 08, 2011, 04:04:44 PM
Yes, of course, everyone knows that Gnomes are made in hollowed out logs out of moonbeams and pixie dust right here at West River Westies VIII in Townshend, VT. No, they are not made in Thailand in sweat shops with fluorescent lights and corn starch.

So, Lets go Camping at West River Westies and see how Gnomes are really made!. You will be surprised at how many will be there. Come and see for yourself

: Ode to the Drinking Gnomes at West River Westies
: Red Baron July 11, 2011, 04:27:36 PM

The Gnomes at West River Westies have come to life
I heard them hiccuping outside.
They got into my Vodka, I know it
I'm going to tan their little hides.

They were tripping over my doorstep
And laughing way too loud,
Woke up my neighbors next door, they did
That makes them feel big and proud.

I wanted to go back to bed
And cover my hurting ears,
But, by the time I got upstairs
They got into my fridge, filled with cold beer.

I climbed out of my upper bunk
As fast as my old legs could go,
Fell over a bearded Gnome on the floor
And had facefull of furry afro.

I grabbed him by the scruff
Of his big fat neck,
Threw him outside and locked the door
I'm getting tired of keeping these little bastards in check.

Never again will I want Garden Gnomes
From that ogre from Westerly.
He was too awful for my liking
But, he's loveable, harmless and I love him too.

To the 2 tone light blue/white blue splitty tube bus dude, when you go up the road to drop off the tubers, is there room for parking the bus while you tube down?  Then you go back?

Who is running the bucket raffel this year?  Anyone know?
: West River
: rmace July 12, 2011, 06:02:12 PM
That would be Jim D with the split window bus, there is parking there just not much. Nevin the wagon master will take care of the raffel, and Jamie the ticket master will sell them. Hope this helps later The Con Kid

: Traffic Advisory from Fillmore
: Red Baron July 13, 2011, 07:45:59 AM
(http://http://www.limbobus.org/phpBB4/album_pic.php?pic_id=8293)
For those travelling North on Interstate 91 to West River Westies VIII, expect traffic delays between the Brattleboro Exits #1 and #2. This is due to bridge construction and both north and south bound lanes are reduced to one lane. Expect delays especially at rush hour times. The only alternate is to get off at Exit 1 and follow Route 5 thru Brattleboro to Route 30. Expect traffic delays on this route also due to numerous stop lights

: KingBee July 13, 2011, 10:21:55 AM
Thanks for the info on the raffel and tube drop off, Rich (a.k.a. the man with one red shoe)
Baron Von Fillmore, thanks for the traffic update!

A guys pulled up to me in my bus (he was in a truck) and gave me that table that goes between the front seats in a Vanagon.  He was on the way to the dump to chuck it out.  How lucky is that?

I went to the Home Depot, and with a little creativity, a few spare parts hanging around in the garage and VW know how, I now have a table set up as close to the VW original as I could.

: Red Baron July 13, 2011, 01:08:25 PM
(http://http://www.limbobus.org/phpBB4/album_pic.php?pic_id=8294)

On Friday, July 15th at 2:40AM, you will see The Full Buck Moon at West River Westies. The Full Buck Moon normally appears in July as this is the month when the new antlers of buck deer push out of the top of their foreheads in coating of velvety fur. It is also called the Thunder Moon, for the reason that thunderstorms are most frequent during this time.

So, don't forget to bring your telescopes and binoculars to view the event. The weather should be excellent.

You must also be on the lookout during The Full Buck Moon for the Camping Gnomes, who most likely will be out mooning their neighbors!

Holy Guacamole what a fun time!  We didn’t want to leave!  We’re gonna come earlier next year!
Maybe this should be a weeklong event?
How about the regatta?  That seemed like the most participants ever.
Baron, could you post the “official’ count of how many bus’s showed up?
And one more, for Gus:
The question is … how many grateful Dead songs are about trains or have trains in them?  Per Wikipedia it’s 11

What an awesome weekend!!  Perfect weather, perfect river, good food, great friends and great camping.   It gets better every year.  Hated to leave.  Seemed like we had more campers this year.  Nevin said 72.  Seems like more.

I'm sorry its over.. like the day after Christmas when you were a kid.

Some day I'll make it to the Regetta.  I always seem to miss it by that much...

Yes, I have to agree it was an awesome weekend with a record number of VW Transporters, drivers, passengers, family members, visitors, dogs, cats and birds. They enjoyed 3 or 4 days of the most beautiful July weather coupled with a visit from the Full Buck Moon that started early on Friday morning and was visible the entire weekend.

What you saw this past weekend was a rare collection of some 72 Volkswagen Campers ranging in age from 1966 thru the turn of this century. Many had unique features added by owners most likely for their own creature comforts.

These vehicles came from four Canadian Provinces; Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario. The rest came from All the New England States ( Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Massachuetts & Connecticut ), New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Illinois.

Also, attending were campers ranging in age from 10 weeks to 4,160 weeks.

But best of all was the generousity of all participants who generated a record donation of $1,000, thru the bucket raffle, for the new Medical Imaging Facility at Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend, VT. This facility is now well underway with the construction of the addition that will house the Imaging equipment including a new state-of-the-art CAT Scanner.

We hope you enjoyed your visit to West River Westies VIII on the banks of the West River at Bald Mountain Campground in Townshend, VT. Thanks again for joining us and we'll see you next year "On the River". Let's Go Camping!

Your WRW Wagonmasters, Nev and Sue Lescher

Be sure to check the Photo Gallery for pictures of this event and look for in the coming week a story with pictures about it in the Brattleboro Reformer

We all had a great time this weekend, as we always do, at WRW.  Hard to believe we have been to 5 of them now!

This year was hot but nothing like last year!

We were a bit delayed by kids, so we didn't get up there until Sat. AM and only stayed one night, but as we were driving home it sure didn't seem like it was a short campout.

We were able to do 2 trips down the river from the bridge and floated into the regatta about 5 minutes late on our first trip.  We saw the whole start and watched everyone have a great time.

We met some new folks, and really love these events for checking out everyone elses set ups to get ideas for our bus.

My brothers new to him 78 Westy ran flawlessly in its first time on the road in about 5 years after we have refurbished it from a mouse infested, neglected bus back to it's beautiful Champagne Edition self.  They got all the way back to Portland, ME as well, without our escort without any problems as well.

A very sucessful weekend in every respect.

Jeff and Michelle, we loved seeing the Bus Depot tent and seeing how you guys do it with three kids gives us inspiration for doing it with our 3 as they get older!  It was great to meet you guys.

Franck and Natalie, it was fun to camp next to you guys with the little guy.  I hope your trip back to Montreal is fun and uneventful.

There were also 2 couples from Canada, New Brunswick I believe who were great in letting us compare awnings and gave me quite the itinerary for when we finally make the long road trip to the Maritimes.

Jim, always fun to see your bus loaded with people and tubes!

Joe, I am sorry that we didn't' get to catch up other than in passing going toward the potluck.  I really wanted to check out your new hightop.  Hopefully we will cross paths soon.

Our kids have not stopped playing with all the little busses and bugs that they won at the raffle.  We doubled our VW matchbox size collection this weekend!

Nevin and Sue, great job as always, and we can't wait until next year!

Thanks again!

Jeremy, Jessica, Christina, Trevor, Amber

We also had a great time- whole family went! Including our Dog's 1st camping trip- fitting that a dog named Westy would attend a VW event as 1st trip!

I did not get to socialize as much as I would have liked- getting there earlier next year.

Climbed Bald Mtn-finally, with my son on Sunday morning.

Thanks to Nevin, Sue, John, Kevin, Jamie and who ever else helped
John
