: Car-puccino, It Runs on Coffee!

Here's one for all you Westy Drivers looking for alternative fuels for your vehicles. This is a 1988 VW Scirocco that runs completely on roasted coffee granules. The designers calculate that it can run 3 miles per kilo of ground coffee, or about 56 espressos per mile. This translates for a 210 mile trip from Hartford to New York City to cost between $1370 and $2740 depending on the blend and does not take into account cream or sugar!

Now, as for me, I would prefer the exhaust aroma of a dark roasted Yemeni Mocha/Java or Hawaii Kona to the aroma of Micky D's French Fries from a Bio-Diesel. Don't think with the present economy I could afford conversion to either one and would probably have to declare bankruptcy buying fuel for a "Coffeemobile".

However, there may be a upside to this conversion. You might be able to syphon off a cup of your favorite "Joe" while on the road, thus eliminating the need to stop at Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks.
