: Vapor Lock Help - 71 Westy
: Anonymous June 22, 2005, 04:32:38 PM
I was driving into the mountains on a hot day loaded for a camping trip. The bus was running a little hotter than usual, so I decided to pull over and let the engine cool down a bit. While I was sitting there idling, it stalled. It wouldn't start for more than an hour, so I had to get a tow. Back at home, it fired right up.

My first experience with vapor lock. Any remedies? Electric fuel pump? Fuel line insulator? I also read somewhere the vapor lock is more likely to happen when you are just idling. Maybe I should have just kept going.
Vapor lock doesn't seem to be common on air-cooled V-dubs, but it could be the cause. I'm not sure what else to check, maybe the ignition system, fuel system, compression,... could be anything I guess. Keep us informed of future problems or lack of (hopefully).

-Stan
